Bill was appointed to the position of CEO of Aviation Australia in January 2011.
Prior to this, Bill served with the Australian Army. His military experience covered a range of leadership and management roles, including Division Head and Director General with the Defence Materiel Organisation, where he was responsible for the acquisition and support of the Australian Defence Force’s land systems and equipment.
Bill commanded the Australian Army Recruit Training Centre and represented the Australian Army in the United Kingdom and the United States of America. He participated in operational service in Rwanda.
Bill has an extensive range of tertiary qualifications from the Universities of Queensland, New South Wales, Charles Sturt and Deakin.
He is a graduate and member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, the City and Guilds of London, and a member of the Australian Institute of Management and the Australian Institute of Project Management.
General Manager International Sales and Strategy – Mr Allan Brooks
Allan has a wealth of Aviation and Commercial experience stretching over almost 20 years and leads a large team of aviation professionals covering disciplines such as Pilot Training, Aviation Engineering, Cabin Crew Training and Flight Safety Training.
Allan has a passion for all aspects of aviation. Prior to his current role, he held the position of Chief Executive Officer of one of Australia’s largest private Flight Training Academies. He holds qualifications in Aviation, Management and Learning/Development and has a genuine interest in innovation and its application in training delivery and sustainability.
In addition to holding pilot qualifications in both Australia and the USA, Allan is currently the President of the Australian chapter of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association.
Financial Controller and Company Secretary – Mrs Kellie Rowing
Kellie joined Aviation Australia in April 2016, and has over 20 years of finance and company secretarial experience.
Prior to joining Aviation Australia, Kellie spent 10 years with Cleanaway Waste Management Ltd, where she held senior finance roles and was Company Secretary. She has also previously worked for chartered accounting firms in Australia and overseas.
Kellie has a Bachelor of Commerce (Hons), and is a Member of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand and a certificated member of the Governance Institute of Australia.
Technical Training Manager – Mr Mark Thompson
Mark joined the company in May 2015, bringing extensive and broad engineering and maintenance experience, developed over 38 years with Qantas Engineering, with his most recent role as Manager Line Maintenance Operations QLD/NT.
Mark has completed a significant amount of aviation training including LAME qualifications in both Mechanical and Avionic streams, MEDA, Taproot, Human Factors, Safety and Risk as well as Lean Methodologies.
Mark holds a Diploma in Management, Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, CAANZ Maintenance Controller accreditation and is our responsible manager for the CASA and EASA Part 147 approvals.
Operations Manager Flight Safety – Ms Harsha Patel
Harsha joined Aviation Australia in August 2010, bringing extensive and broad experience in service-orientated private and Government owned educational organisations. During her career, she has won a number of sales awards and played a key role in the organisation winning the QLD Premiers Award.
Her formal qualifications include Masters of Education (TESOL), International Diploma of Language Teaching Management, Certificate IV in Training & Assessment. Harsha is also a freelance Cambridge CELTA teacher trainer.
Harsha has a passion for adult teaching and learning. More recently she has been looking into gamification and game play in education. Understanding under what circumstances game elements can drive learning behaviour.
Steve joined Aviation Australia in July 2014, having previously held Human Resources Manager roles with a sporting/hospitality company and an aviation company.
Currently responsible for Human Resources and Student Services, Steve possesses broad management, sales and audit skills gained from a range of industries including aviation and finance.
Steve holds a Graduate Diploma in Human Resource Management and Industrial Relations, a Graduate Diploma in Education and a Bachelor of Arts Degree.
Chris has been working in the aircraft industry throughout the Pacific for the past 30 years. Chris has been the business manager for the Cairns Aviation Skills Centre Aviation Australia for nine years and has previously held senior positions in the aviation industry as Director of Engineering for three major Regional Airlines.
Chris is a Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) licenced aircraft maintenance engineer as well as a CASA approved maintenance Controller and Private Pilot.
Throughout Chris’s career he has been an active member of the aviation industry through his Chairmanship of the Australasian Aviation Group Cairns, as a Technical Representative for the Regional Aviation Association of Australia (RAAA) and as an Industry advisor for both National Aeroskills and the Civil Aviation Safety Authority just to name a few.
Quality Assurance Manager – Ms Danielle Mako
Danielle joined Aviation Australia in November 2015, bringing her most recent experience with the Australian Civil Aviation Safety Authority in development and implementation of Maintenance Regulation suite into her role as the Quality Assurance Manager. Danielle conducted audits in support of CASA Operations during the initial transition period and providing education and resources to organisations wishing to commence the transition.
Danielle currently serves in the Australian Army as a Technical Supervisor with her initial trade of Avionics being gained in the Australian Navy. Danielle has been deployed on two operations with the Blackhawk helicopter on international peace keeping missions, with her love of Helicopters and maintenance environment leading to a civilian role in regulatory compliance.
Danielle holds Advanced Diplomas in Management and Project Management, Certificate IV in Aircraft Maintenance Engineering – Avionics and Certificates in Lead Audit and Safety Management. Danielle currently holds accreditation as the Quality Assurance Manager for the CASA, EASA and GCAA Part 147 approval and the CASA Part 142 approval.
Chairman – Mr Ashley Kilroy
Ashley was appointed as the Chair in September 2014 after serving as the acting Chair from January and Director from 2010.
Ashley is a former Airline Executive, with over 40 years Aviation Management experience with TAA/Australian Airlines and Qantas Airways. His experience includes Senior Executive roles in Commercial, Airport Management and Regional Airlines. Ashley is also a non-executive Director of Newcastle Airport Pty Limited, Mildura Airport Pty Limited and Queensland Airports Limited.
Ashley is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (FAICD).
Director – Ms Julie-Anne Schafer
Julie-Anne was appointed to the board of Aviation Australia in November 2010.
Previously a partner in two Queensland legal professional services firms, Julie-Anne holds a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) degree from the University of Queensland and an AICD Company Directors Diploma. Julie-Anne has worked in a number of non-executive director roles with a focus on business outcomes, customers, risk management and governance.
She is a former Queensland Telstra Business Women’s award winner and an Adjunct Professor of law at the University of Queensland. Julie-Anne has served on various Law Faculty Advisory Committees at several Queensland Universities and has also filled the role as Deputy Chancellor of the Queensland University of Technology.
Julie-Anne is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and of the Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance.
She brings strong legal credentials, corporate experience, and experience with educational organisations to the board.
Terry was appointed to the board of Aviation Australia in January 2011.
Terry has been involved in aviation and aerospace for more than forty years. He served in the Royal Air Force where his last appointment was as Trade Manager Avionics on two squadrons of Nimrod aircraft.
After leaving the RAF, Terry emigrated to Canada where he was employed by CAE in Montreal as a project engineer designing developing and installing a number of Full Flight Simulators (FFS) for customers including NATO, Lufthansa, Swiss Air and others. Terry then joined Litton Systems Canada Ltd (LSL) where his final position was as Senior Marketing Manager.
Terry then immigrated to Australia where he has since held various roles with HDH, ASTA, Rockwell Boeing and currently Asia Pacific Aerospace (APA). Terry was for a number of years General Manager Business Development for Boeing Australia and is currently the Chief Executive Officer of APA where he is responsible for all commercial engine maintenance.
Terry brings significant aviation industry and commercial experience to the board.
Mike Gilmour joined the board in September 2014.
He has over 30 years experience as a senior finance and commercial executive, primarily in manufacturing, private hospitals and aero medical healthcare.
Mike is currently Chair of Open Minds Australia, a Director of Isis Central Sugar Mill Pty Limited, a Director of Sugar Research Australia Limited and a member of the CPA Australia Disciplinary Tribunal. He has also held a range of directorships, including until recently, Chair of the Brisbane Metro Region TAFE, Chair of South Bank Institute of Technology, Chair of Metropolitan South Institute of TAFE and Inaugural Chair of Metro North Brisbane Medicare Local. Mike is also a former President of the Queensland Division of CPA Australia.
