LAME outcomes with government funding in WA

Nikhil Krishna, a trainee aircraft maintenance engineer at HeliSpirit, is the first person in Western Australia to complete a Diploma of Aeroskills (Mechanical) with Aviation Australia and supported by Jobs and Skills WA funding through the Department of Training and Workforce Development. Nikhil is now eligible to apply for an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer Licence with CASA, the first time this outcome has been achieved through Jobs and Skills WA funding.

“Aircraft Maintenance Engineering has been identified as a skills shortage by many government and industry reports, so seeing this become a reality is a positive outcome for the industry where licenced engineers are in demand,” stated Mark Thompson, Technical Training Manager at Aviation Australia.

WA Government support for the Diploma of Aeroskills, especially with a CASA Licence outcome, is indicative of the growing need for Licenced Aircraft Maintenance Engineers in Western Australia. This support, combined with requests for training opportunities from the WA aviation industry, led Aviation Australia to establishing a training centre in Jandakot in 2017.

There has been a steady increase in training capabilities and services offered by Aviation Australia in the state. They are committed to delivery exceptional aviation training in Jandakot, and to this end have provided new training aircraft and appointed two fulltime technical staff. A range of theory and practical training now takes place throughout the year, as well as assessment of trainees based around the state.

Aviation Australia’s Technical Training Supervisor in Western Australia, Esther Olden, says “It is a great result not only for Nikhil and Helispirit but shows the broader initiative of having Licenced Aircraft Maintenance Engineering outcomes available to all WA aviation businesses across the state is working,”.

This is a positive representative of what Aviation Australia can deliver to help fill the growing demand for high quality aviation training outcomes in Perth as the industry continues to grow.
